Hedge Zombies Beware!
This replaced a nice little corded brand of another maker that worked OK...but the blackberries and ivy outgrew the cord. I had the GreenWorks mower (another super tool) so this was a no brainer. I'll likely get the bare pole saw eventually. So...this thing is a tiger...a mean and ruthless beast! It chews through tough woody vines with ease. Shearing leaves off the face of a boxwood hedge is a joke. I think a quick spray of WD40 prior to a work session is a good idea. My wife named me Edward Scissor Hedge for the duration of this round. We had blackberries and English Ivy eight feet high and four feet deep to tame. It's now a sniveling pile in the front lawn, waiting for room in the lawn recycling bin. This thing is a beast. Note: it's not a lightweight tool. This one is serious.Blackhorse
This item DOES include a battery.
Was very happy to see that this item does indeed include a battery. I was unclear on that from reading the description. So I deducted one star for not being clear in the description. If I just overlooked this information, I apologize. Have not used it yet, but it comes packaged very, very well. I do have the greenworks mower, weed eater and the leaf blower. All of those products have been great over a period of the last 5 years. Look forward to using this new tool when it warms up.Sandi
Outstanding!
The hedge trimmer was perfect for cleaning up around my house. The neighbors didn’t complain about noise either! I will be purchasing more GreenWorks products.Will0804
Good to Very Good ... with caveats ...
This G-Max 40 comes with the 2AH battery & charger. Be advised that this is the smaller of the batteries available for this GMax line. One of the reasons I got this over other cordless trimmers is that I already have a weedwhacker in the GMax line, so I now can swap batteries, max production. That said .... I usually use the 4AH battery that came with the weedwhacker; more power means fewer branches jam the teeth. THe 2AH battery will do pretty well, depending on your need. I get about 1hr run time cutting azalea-type hedges; thicker stuff will use more juice.

NOW ... the caveat ... the center bar on this seems to be of some weak pot metal, and is prone to easy bending. The first time I used it, I noticed a bend before I was finished. I gently bent it back pretty easily. If you exercise a bit of care, this shouldn't be a huge problem .... well, until you go up against some serious trimming. Bigger branches may be more likely to cause this bending. I would have preferred a more substantial center bar; they probably used this material to cut weight and cost ..... a false economy, in my eyes anyway.

I wouldn't withhold a recommendation because of that center bar ... so long as you have that caveat, it should provide you good service.

Oh, FYI - I compared it to a corded B&D 22" trimmer I had ... and it performed better in every way over the B&D .... AND you didn't have to fuss with the cord.

There may be better trimmers out there ... but if you like the GreenWorks line, this utilizes the same lithium batteries.MoaiMike
Makes trimming a quick task!
This cordless trimmer is light enough to give you great control to precisely trim delicate bushes, evergreens or vines. It also has enough power to chew through 1/2" diameter oak limbs or heavy brush. If the limb fits between the teeth, it will cut it. Battery life is excellent, although mine is still very new. Time will tell how durable it is.TheGardener
